Frequently Asked Questions.

How to get the most out of your cooler?

In order to get the most outta your cooler, you need to pre chill it. If you have a large enough deep freezer, you can put the whole cooler in there for 24 hours ahead of time. If not, take a couple gallons of milk jugs, fill 'em up with water and let them sit in there for 24 hours before loading your cooler. Its also best to use a mix of Ice cubes, and Blocked ice. (pro tip use 32oz gatorade bottles pre frozen in place of blocked ice)

Shoot for a 50-50 Ratio when packing. 50% food/drinks, 50% Ice. Start with a layer of ice then a layer of food and drinks, repeat until your cooler is full to the brim.

Be sure to put in cold food and cold drinks so your not melting all your ice by cooling them down. Even with items coming from fridge temp, Its not uncommon to loose ice at a faster rate in the first 12 hours while everything you pack and the cooler insulation comes down to match the Ice temperature, So we recommend topping off your cooler at the last gas station to maximize your retention for when Ice isnt available.

Sizing your Lone Mountain Cooler correctly for your specific trips needs is crucial to maximizing your ice retention, Airspace is the #1 ice eater if your cooler is oversized for what your taking. If you really want to extend the ice retention as your emptying your cooler throughout your trip, put a towel or blanket in to take up that air space.

How long will ice last in my cooler?

Your Lone Mountain Cooler will hold ice for 5-13 days depending on if its a 20qt or a 110qt. These numbers are using the Industry standard Ice retention test of 100% ice at 70 Degrees, opening the cooler Once per day to check Ice levels. Real life usage for all high end rotomolded coolers is about half that time frame, when doing a 50% food and Drink to Ice ratio.

Got a Long Trip where Ice isnt available?? Use multiple coolers, keep one larger 75qt or 110qt in the shade, only open it once a day to replenish your "day use 45qt Cooler" If your camping for 7-14 days use a 3rd cooler packed entirely with frozen food, your food will stay frozen for the first week without any ice in it.
